Who’s got the candles and the party hats? Blow up the balloons, get your cards ready, and join us as we celebrate… because Turnpike has just turned one year old.
It was exactly 12 months ago that Alec and I were standing outside a pub in Soho, London, anxious to hit ‘publish’ on our first Instagram post, announcing our new venture to the world. Befitting our ‘Global’ name, Alen was monitoring our Q&A from Sweden, Dino was impatiently waiting to see it at 3:00am Japan time, and Larry had to take a break from his Monterey Car Week coverage to see how the launch had gone.
Fast forward a year, with over 40,000 Instagram followers, tens of millions of impressions, almost 4,000 registered users on the website, and stories from countries all over the world on the Backroads…it’s safe to say our little car culture hub has grown pretty well. That wouldn’t be possible without our top-tier brand partners: ADRO Inc., CSF Race, Forza Horizon 6, and RAYS.
Most importantly, it’s you that we’re grateful for. Not only our loyal readers whom we’ve built Turnpike for, but the talented contributors we’ve picked up along the way and the teams working behind the scenes to keep Turnpike improving every day. A massive thank you to Brad Lord, our Managing Editor, for keeping things running smoothly, too.
I’m going to keep this short and sweet, because no matter how much I could say about our first birthday, most of it would be emotional nonsense about seeing our little idea bloom over the past 365 days. What I will say is that we’ve just about finished working on Turnpike’s next evolution, so keep an eye out for the reveal over the next few days.
From Alec, Alen, Dino, Larry, and Mario (yes, that’s me, I feel left out), we want to thank you for your support, dedication, and encouragement over the past year. It’s been an amazing ride, and it’s going to get even better.
