In today’s new car market, most buyers opt for drab gray, boring black, or plain white exteriors. Gone are the days of individuality in car ownership. This upsets me.
All hope is not lost, however. There is one man who is making a difference and bringing back the love for actual colours on cars. Ryan Oatman, the owner of a 718 Cayman GT4 in Mint Green, hosts an annual event in Canada called Kaleidoscope to showcase Porsche’s beloved cars and colours.
Debuting in 2023, Kaleidoscope set out to showcase uniquely specified Porsches in venues that are just as remarkable. Ryan creates an immersive experience in which these colour-filled cars are no longer just meant for speed or transportation; they are displayed as true works of art.
All aspects of Kaleidoscope are intentional, meticulous, and obsessively perfect. Each Porsche is carefully curated and strategically positioned, resulting in one of the most picturesque car shows you can attend.
This year’s edition of Kaleidoscope was held at the Parkwood Estate in Oshawa, Ontario. Not many attendees knew what to expect when arriving at the Victorian-esque venue, and Ryan had done a great job of keeping it under wraps so attendees would be blown away by its grandeur on arrival.
It may sound cliché, but what really makes Kaleidoscope stand out from run-of-the-mill car shows isn’t just the cars, the colours, or even the venues – it’s the people. Whether you arrive in a vintage 911, a 928, or a humble Honda Civic (like I did), the atmosphere is always inclusive, welcoming, and electric. Enthusiasts from all walks of life across North America come together to bond over a shared love of the Porsche brand and its iconic colour catalog.
I’ve been to many car shows and events in my life, but nothing brings me more joy than what Ryan and his team have created. If you missed this year’s fourth edition of Kaleidoscope, I am sorry to hear it, but don’t fret; it’s already time to start counting down the days for K5.
