I’d be lying if I said I ever turn my work brain completely off, even on holiday. I’ll always take at least one camera body and lens combo with me, just in case I spot something worth exploring.
The first leg of my current holiday (which I’m still on as I write these words) was to Italy – more specifically, the region around Lake Garda in the country’s north. While out grabbing lunch, I spotted something remarkable in a quiet, suburban neighbourhood: what appeared to be a graveyard full of old Fiats, baking away in the Italian summer sun.
I went in for a closer look, and sure enough, dozens of Pandas, 500s, and more were sitting exposed to the elements. After a quick chat with the delightful owner, who seemed bemused by my cycling gear and sporty glasses, we agreed I’d come back with my camera to take some proper photos.
So, here they are. This isn’t a full feature; I’m still technically off the clock, so there isn’t much to delve into here. But what I can tell you is that this isn’t a graveyard, but a part-car storage space above Carrozzeria Benace: a garage and body shop specialising in old Italian metal.
The owner was kind enough to gift me two bottles of wine, and his Border Collie – whom he had named Bambina – was a very sweet girl indeed. Even if she did want to play fetch without ever actually giving me her ball.
Enjoy this mini blog and gallery feature. Let me know if you’d like to see more bits and pieces like this from our adventures around the world.
