7’s Day Rotary Dreams in Downtown Houston

Brap brap brap brap brap brap! Sound familiar? I bet you can hear it in your mind right now…

When the flyer for 7’s Day Houston 2026 was first posted, I knew right away I had to go. Downtown Houston, Texas, right next to Daikin Park, home of the Houston Astros? I was already imagining how beautiful the backdrop would be, especially with the city lights.

What I forgot, however, was the inimitable smell of 93 octane fuel and premix oil. I also forgot that the fumes can burn your eyes and make you tear up – but hey, that’s all part of the rotary experience.

The atmosphere at the event was amazing, and being surrounded by so many JDM legends made the whole experience even cooler.

While 7’s Day (7/7) is a celebration of the RX-7 and all of its Mazda rotary siblings, the Houston event brought out a variety of cars – mostly Japanese, but with a few Euros thrown in for good measure.

From clean, understated, “pure” builds to cars sitting fender-to-lip with an eye-watering -30 degrees of camber, the meet had it all. While I’d never take my Subaru BRZ down the stance route, I absolutely love stance cars.

Speaking of the BRZ, I definitely wasn’t expecting to see a whole lineup of ZN/ZC6s and ZD8s together, but it was a cool surprise. Huge thanks to you guys for waving me over and directing me to a spot next to y’all.

A couple of other non-Mazda standouts included a gorgeous AP2 Honda S2000, sitting perfectly on Sonic Green RAYS Volk Racing TE37s, complete with Spoon brakes and a bright red Recaro Pole Position driver’s seat. There was also a stunning E46 BMW M3, once again rolling on TEs.

Before I get to the rotaries, I also have to mention Ronald Patrice’s Toyota 1JZ-swapped FD3S Mazda RX-7. When I first spotted the car from a distance, I had no idea it was swapped. It wasn’t until I caught a glimpse of the engine cover that I ran in for a closer look. I still don’t know how Ronald (@ronaldpatrice) managed to squeeze the 1JZ in there – the gap between the back of the cylinder head and the firewall looked like it was barely enough to stack two quarters.

Now for the rotaries. There were so many incredible builds at 7’s Day Houston 2026 – everything from FB, FC, and FD RX-7s to even a handful of RX-8s.

Many of the cars were packed with legendary Japanese tuner parts too – think RE-Amemiya, Knight Sports, R-Magic, and FEED. But regardless of the chassis or how it was modified, every car had its place at the event.
