My name is Ibrahime, though most people call me Ibramike. I’m an amateur photographer from Spain who has been living in Germany for 13 years. Over this time, I’ve learned what it really means to experience car culture in a country famous for its automotive industry, the Autobahn, and the Nürburgring. And if we’re talking brands, Porsche is the one central to today’s story.

Just 36 hours before the April 2024 event, Magnus Walker posted on Instagram announcing a spontaneous car meet: the Essen Outlaw Gathering. It promised to be a gathering not to miss, held in Germany’s historic mining region.

The meet took place at Zeche Zollverein, an iconic industrial complex turned cultural hub in Essen. It coincided with the Techno Classica Essen, one of Europe’s most important classic car events, bringing together an even larger community of automotive enthusiasts for the spontaneous gathering.

The short notice gave the event a raw, underground vibe. Despite – or maybe because of – it, around 200 people traveled from places as far away as Hamburg, Bavaria, Poland, and even the United States.

Around 100 vehicles showed up, from Porsche 935 DP IIIs and 924 Turbos to a curious electric 911 G, alongside numerous customized projects and unique builds. I got up early and arrived first – without a car.

But whether you owned a Porsche or not, you were welcome. French, British, and American cars, among others, were part of the mix. The atmosphere was relaxed and full of conversation.

Meeting Magnus Walker in person was incredible. You can tell that any Porsche, rare or not, brings him genuine excitement. He walked around from car to car, listening to stories and chatting with attendees in a humble, approachable way. He is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met.
