It wasn’t the usual meet, this time around, as the East London Car Club decided to go to the South Side of the river. Although the club was born with the purpose of getting cars into East London, one Sunday saw the celebrations move south of the river; ForeverGood at 54 Druid Street, to be exact.

Turning down Druid Street the sun was shining, but before long it was slightly overcast and, of course, humid. London in the summer time does seem to have its own micro climate.

Yet when I arrived there was a murmur of community in the air, the reason we were all there. Cars and bikes lined the road on both sides.

I’m never disappointed with the caliber or motors present, when I get down to an event at ForeverGood. There’s always something different that catches my eye, and this time around I’d say it was the black Alpina C2 2.7, something that was hot in the 80s – and still is today.

Seeing an Autozam AZ-1 on the streets of London is rare and certainly not something I am familiar with. Manufactured by Mazda under its Autozam brand, it was developed as a mid-engined, Suzuki powered, Kei-class sports car.

It’s a statement in design and function, seen here in Classic Red with gull-wing doors and a BMW-esque catchphrase: “ultimate handling machine”. A very good companion was sitting quite comfortably in the passenger side, so I’d say the catch phrase for the AZ-1 is pretty accurate.

Speaking of very good companions, I also became aware of the ForeverGood resident cat, something which I had never known before.

Of course there was a Land Rover Defender, which seemed to be having some difficulty (shock…) with the bonnet propped up. Let’s hope it made it out okay…

Where would we be without a bit of true Del boy fashion – a staple of British television? East London Car Club T-shirts being sold out the boot of a conspicuous Orange MGB GT, very fitting.

The spirit of community at ForeverGood events is top tier. Not only was this specific event two sides of the river coming together with their cars (and bikes), but also one for the greater good; raising awareness and money for ForeverGood’s neighbor John, of Tower Porsche, in his battle with Achalaisa Cardia.

ForeverGood hosts many events throughout the year. With a backdrop of the tallest building in the UK, The Shard, it’s really not one to miss.
